Hummingbirds

Every year, we put out the hummingbird feeders and then wait for the show. This year, the hummingbirds have not disappointed. There is very little that tops the entertainment that these little birds provide my husband and I as we watch their aerial acrobatic maneuvers.

These birds show little fear of us as we watch them from our deck.

Which Came First....the Chicken or the Egg?

I purchased this fried egg fabric some time ago in a local quilt shop. I was not sure what I would make from the fabric, but as a chicken collector, I knew I had to have some of that wonderful egg fabric.

I recently came across the chicken fabric on the left. I knew that this fun chicken fabric would be perfect paired with the fried eggs. I had a lot of fun looking through patterns trying to decide which pattern would best showcase these special fabrics. I came across a quilt on the Internet that reminded me of Quiltmaker's Warm Wishes quilt pattern. LindaJ reminded me that the quilt was also a lot like Atkinson Designs' Tile Tango pattern.

I worked backwards from what I wanted to see as a finished size for this quilt. I wanted this quilt to finish approximately 45 to 50 inches square. I drafted the design on scrap paper and figured out how many strips and what size of strips that I needed to cut out of which fabric.

Quilt Finishes While Computer is Down

I have been disconnected from the computer world for the past week. My computer crashed on May 4 while I was on line talking to a friend on line. Thanks to my daughter sharing her laptop with me throughout the week, I was able to keep limited contact with my on-line friends. Thanks to the computer talents of my son, my computer is now back up and running and I have rejoined the blogging world and I am back "connected" to all of you.

While I did not have my computer, I did manage to make good use of my time and finished off some quilts.
This is my dryer sheet diamond quilt. This quilt was completed to the flimsy stage on May 27, 2007 and was long arm machine quilted using the Baptist Fan template on January 6, 2008.

This is my Hibiscus Convergence quilt. We made this quilt on a FAB Saturday in March. Although it is hard to see in this picture, this quilt was long arm machine quilted with the clam sheet template.

This quilt is the product of a couple of challenges and a FAB Saturday. LindaJ's quilting group challenged themselves to use the feature fabric in this quilt, the merrkittys in a quilt. Pam challenged the FABs to use the yellow star fabric in a quilt using the 9 Patch Pizzazz pattern. The FABs are donating their finished 9PP quilts to Pam's M2M project. Tada...presenting IIWII (It Is What It Is), my Merkitty 9 Patch for Mexico quilt! Now don't say that three times in a row! LOL

Happy Birthday Matt!

Today was my DS's 22nd birthday.

Tradition in our house allows for the birthday boy or girl to choose the menu for the evening. Matthew chose cannelloni with garlic bread and Caesar salad. For desert, an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

Matthew insisted on lighting all 22 candles himself.

He did have to put up with the rest of us singing, Happy Birthday before he could blow out the candles, though!

We gave Matt a membership to BCAA. We know if his older model truck breaks down or he runs out of gas, he is just a phone call away from help.....peace of mind for us as the parents! We also gave him the cash to buy new roller blades. Matt plays in a roller hockey league for fun. The exercise provides balance to his chosen employment in the computer field.

Tulips in the Valley

One of the sure signs that Spring has arrived is seeing this field of tulips in full bloom.

This year, the tulips are blooming at least 3 weeks behind when they bloomed last year.

Spring has definitely taken its timing arriving in this neck of the woods!
