I Wish I Was Still In Arizona

I have been busy lately going through my vacation photos of my recent trip to Arizona and California. I still have more to share with you, but it takes time to sort through them and then post to Blogger.

The pictures in today's post look like pictures I would have taken in December. Nope, these pictures were taken this afternoon! Here we are back in the middle of the cold, wintry, snowy weather.

I am going to go back to looking through those vacation photos and dreaming of the warm sunny skies that I recently experienced in Arizona.

It Continues to Snow

Just when we thought it couldn't snow any more, we woke up to another 10" of fresh snow this morning!

There have been reports recently on the news of roofs and awnings collapsing under the weight of the heavy snow so DH thought he should remove the snow off the roof of his shop. Here is my DH on the ladder in our backyard. Apparently just before I came out to take pictures, my husband had fallen off the ladder. It is a good thing that snow is soft!
And because the snow is so pretty, I spent a few minutes today snapping some shots outside.

Look who was watching me safe and warm inside.

This snow accumulated on my son's car from 11 pm the previous night.

Let the Sun Shine In!

Today's temperatures were the same freezing temperatures we have had for the last couple of days. However, the sun was shining! It was too cold to be outside, but it was warm and cozy inside my studio. I have a large window in front of my long arm and this morning, I opened the blind and let the sun shine in!

It was so sunny, you could see the reflection of the quilt that I was working on in the window.

This is the quilt that I worked on today--not my quilt, it belongs to a customer. The last time I stopped to buy thread from my supplier, she showed me a new product from Superior Threads called Lava. I bought a spool to try and this quilt was the perfect quilt to try it on. This thread colour is Soft Breeze.
I leave you with two parting shots of my handsome, faithful companion, Joey.

Still Looking For Spring!

These pictures were taken yesterday. Look closely, the "lawn guy" in my parent's complex is mowing the lawn in a snow storm! He even had mitts on.

Last Saturday, the temperature was 20 degrees and sunny, today it is freezing--temperature is zero degrees!

We are still looking for Spring! I think someone misplaced it this year!

Looking For Spring

After stitching with the FABs this morning, I headed out to the tulip fields--today is the first day of the local Tulip Festival.

It may be 20 degrees out, but we are still within winter's grasp as there are no tulips in bloom yet. The owner of the fields told me that by next weekend there would be "some" colour and hopefully within two weeks the fields will be in full bloom. However, he added that it might be longer as there is snow in the forecast for next Thursday!

On the way home, I stopped to take pictures of Mt. Cheam. It is a gorgeous mountain that overlooks our small town. No matter where you are in town, you can get a view of Mt. Cheam.

I managed to find this small plot of daffodils--the only sign that Spring can't be far off!

Double Four Patch - Complete

You have seen this quilt before in various stages of construction. Here it is again--this time complete. The last stitches were taken on the binding a couple of weeks ago. I was waiting for the rains to stop so that I could take this quilt's formal shot outside--today was that day. The sun shone today, people were out of hibernation walking around the streets, and I could almost be convinced that Spring is really just around the corner!

I have been working less on my own quilts lately and more on customer quilts. The tally so far this year is 13 total quilts brought in for quilting--3 of which were mine. I have finished two of my quilts completely, the third is waiting for its binding to be sewn on. Of the 10 customer quilts that have come in this year, only 3 are waiting in the wings--one of those was received today.

I have also been working on the "less is more" lifestyle. Pam has been talking about reducing the clutter in her life and this seemed like as good a time as any to follow suit. We have been re-organizing, sorting, reducing, throwing away, donating, and refusing to introduce anything futher into this house that we don't absolutely need. As my husband said today, "Sadly, despite all the stuff that we have gotten rid of lately, it is hard to tell the difference!" Although this statement seems very true right now, I believe that if we continue to soldier on, you will be able to see a difference when you enter this house. It may take a long while, but we will get there. Eventually we will be liberated from all this clutter!

Snow Day!

Today was another snow day! This time no one went anywhere. The winds came up and caused havoc on the highways when white out conditions resulted. Brrrr it is cold out there!

A White Christmas

This was the view from our bedroom window when we went to bed on Christmas Day. We managed to have a white Christmas this year--something that only occurs once in every 10 years here.

These photos were taken on Boxing Day just before my daughter and I headed out for the traditional Boxing Day shopping. The temperature had warmed up quite a bit from the day before and this snow quickly turned to slush.

This morning we woke up to even more snow. I am now officially tired of this white stuff and will be welcoming the liquid sunshine should it decide to return!

More Snow

The snow we received earlier in the week had melted before today.

It snowed a bit last night and then started again this morning. The snow has not stopped accumulating since this morning.

Yes, the snow is pretty. However, it is very hazardous to drive in. For that reason I do not appreciate the snow.

I made sure that I did all my errands and grocery shopping on Friday so I would not have to venture out in this stuff once it came.

We heard on the news a couple of nights ago that this winter is forecast to break records for cold temperatures. I just hope it also does not break records for snow fall!

First Snow

This is what we woke up to this morning.
This is the first snow of the season.
Winter is officially here!

Fall is Here!

Fall is definitely here! Some days, I think we have moved past fall and into winter. This was what we woke up to Thursday morning. That snow is awfully close!

These pictures were taken from the deck of my parents' house.

I love to decorate for the changing seasons. This year, I have included the entrance in my decorating. This is the front door of our house.

A wreath in fall colours.
A mum to welcome visitors.

Before we go inside, there are a few plants still thriving outside that I want to show you. Soon the cool evening temperatures will force the end of these plants, but for now they are here to enjoy. I am not sure what this plant was called, but I just love it. I will be sure to plant this in my hanging baskets again next year.

This is my husband's Castor bean plant. He brought it home in a small 4" pot at the beginning of August. It is extremely fast growing. Since they aren't hardy in our climate, we will have to plant one again next spring.

The flower / seed pod.
Once inside, there are two quilts hanging in the entrance. This is "Moonlight over the Pumpkin Patch". This is a quilt that was just finished last weekend. Finishing this one allows me to cross another UFO off my list on my sidebar for this year. The quilt pattern was BQ. I started this quilt over a year ago. I first saw a quilt made from this pattern at the Lynden fair. Although it is a simple pattern, I was distracted and didn't finish until now.

Does the pumpkin fabric look familiar? I used what was left over from this project to make the latest 4 patch stacked posies quilt that I have been working on.

This is a quilt that I bring out to the living room each fall for snuggling under while watching TV.

This quilt made from the Warm Wishes pattern is hanging in my dining room.

And this quilt is on the table.
